LOVE IN TIME OF CORONA: COPING WITH THE FAMILY AMIDST QUARANTINE

Quarantine, or life in the midst of the pandemic, has been a real challenge. Especially for family life, and more so with families that have kids in tow. As a millennial mom, it is a struggle to have to explain to my kid why his life has been turned upside down.

"Why can't we go outside mom?"
"Why can't I play in the playground?"
"When will we go to the pool to swim?
"Why should I wear mask?"
"Why can't I come with dad in the grocery?"
and so so so much more questions on the daily...

While he knows the basic answer to the question, that simply put there is a virus outside, in the air, that might make us sick, I am not sure if he quite grasps the gravity of the situation. While they do understand, and listen, the scope of how intense the situation is, I am sure they do not quite comprehend yet. And it saddens me, that they will be the kids who "grew up amidst the pandemic", where what could have been joyful memories of fun in the sun, were replaced by solitude within the four corners of their homes. Solitude is not bad, not at all, but kids need to thrive in rich experiences to form their character, enrich their minds, and deepen their memory well.

Of course, as parents, we have to make the most of the quarantine life- and try as best as we can to explore other alternatives of learning and enriching while just staying indoors. As a millennial mom living in a tight spaced high rise aka the "city urban living", it's an extra challenge indeed. But we have to do the best with what we have, for the little ones to never not fly high, right?

“In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.” –Friedrich Nietzsche
