Orange is definitely not the new black. But orange and black undeniably balances one another. They are not exactly complementary, but they mellow down the other. Orange often comes off as too flamboyant an outfit. Only a number can pull off such color. Black, on the other hand, is not exactly cheeriest.
Together they add the necessary detail to undo extremity. As in this case, the touch of orange brings a tinge of playful spirit to the dark serious tone while the black makes the casual look a little smarter and more polished.
